A friend of mine sat across the table from Julius, a middle-aged man who had devoted his life to music. As he prepared to lead his gospel choir in singing for the banquet, he spoke proudly about the finer points of musicianship. Within seconds, he started using technical language that was beyond my friend’s understanding.

Julius described the technique, the features, the analytics of the music he loved so much. It was impressive – but not nearly as extraordinary as when his twelve students stood, singing around him as he sat at the piano. Oh, how they sang! Their voices gripped the heart. They touched the soul. Their song came alive and resonated deeply, pronouncing honor to God that derived from words, sounds, passion, energy. My friend could understand that.

When you think about Jesus, you may be impressed with the many facts, features, and even the analytics of his life. You may not understand it all. But when you allow him to become personal, to invade your inner heart, to sing to your soul, that’s when it becomes truly extraordinary – and you find resonant life beyond the limits of your circumstances.
